Juanita

Van model: Toyota Lite ACE

Year of construction: 2010

I'm not going to say anything technical here, just feelings. Juanita was the first van I built and I include her in this collection because thanks to her I fell in love with this lifestyle. As soon as I met her I thought of Juana and then I changed to Juanita because of her iconic size. I don't know if you saw her "retro" yellow lines, but oh my god!, that was the first thing I saw and then the pop up roof followed :)

At that time I had been involved in the construction of Peruvian cajones but I didn't have much experience with wood yet. I was in my early years of my Design Degree and was just discovering this wonderful world of vans. I don't regret a single screw though!

I started to like the shapes of the vans, their possibilities and potential. I began to observe the styles and stories of the people who travel like this; their aesthetics, their philosophy, their ways of behaving...everything, and I fell for their charm and here I am thanks to the fact I bought a second hand van in a small town in New Zealand.

With her I climbed volcanoes, slept on deserted beaches and got into every forest I could. I got to know one of the most beautiful countries in the world, thanks to her. Thank you Juanita, back in 2010 Toba was borning…
